A sandwich is a sandwich, but sandwich fillings baked up in braided, seasoned dough is a Stromboli. Or maybe a calzone, depending on what you put into it. Either way, this small carb change makes all the difference in this Italian Stromboli recipe

Instructions
☐ Preheat oven to 375°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
☐ In a small bowl, combine ricotta, 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; set aside.
☐ Place dough onto the prepared baking sheet and cut angled slits along each side.
☐ Spread the ricotta mixture over the dough, leaving ½ inch from the edges of the slits.
☐ Layer cheese, salami, ham, and pepperoni evenly on top of the ricotta, leaving edges free ☐ Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan over the meats ☐ Sprinkle Italian seasoning evenly on top – save remaining for final step ☐ Fold dough over the filling in an alternating pattern to create a simple braid; tuck in the ends to seal.
☐ Brush the top and sides with whisked egg and sprinkle with the remaining ½ Tbsp Italian seasoning, plus additional salt and pepper to taste.
☐ Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden brown. ☐ Let cool 5–10 minutes before slicing ☐ Slice with a sharp knife and serve with warmed marinara sauce.

Tips & Variations
☐ Add sautéed vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms for extra flavor
☐ Use cooked sausage instead of or alongside salami/ham
☐ Swap mozzarella for provolone for a sharper taste
☐ Egg wash gives a shiny, golden crust; omit for a softer crust. You may also add minced garlic to the egg wash.
☐ Slice thinly for party appetizers or thicker for meal-sized portions
